Jorge Lorenzo Biography

Jorge Lorenzo may only be 23-years-old, but he has plenty of racing under his belt. Probably because the young Mallorcan hopped on his first motorcycle at the age of three. Lorenzo was racing shortly after that, and in 1995 he won the Balearic title. He followed that victory by winning Mallorca's minicross, trial, minimoto and junior motocross titles in 1996.
Lorenzo's winning ways continued when he started road racing in 1997 at the age of 10. Lorenzo took home the Aprilia 50cc cup in 1998, and two years later a special dispensation allowed him to become the youngest rider to race in the Spanish 125cc series. The following year, he became the youngest person to win a European 125cc race.
Lorenzo began racing in the MotoGP circuit in 2002, when he made his debut in the 125cc class. Lorenzo quickly moved up to the 250cc class in 2004, and claimed back to back championships in 2006 and 2007.
After getting his feet wet and proving his worth in the 250cc class, Lorenzo made the step up to the big time. Lorenzo's skill earned him a spot with the Fiat Yamaha team alongside Valentino Rossi in 2008. Each season with the Fiat Yamaha team has been better the one before, and last year Jorge Lorenzo had a record breaking year, earning him his first MotoGP championship.
Lorenzo earned nine race wins last season, and accumulated 383 points, breaking Rossi's record for most points tallied in a season.
