The unique Lexus LS 600h L wedding car that will be used by the Monaco Royal Couple on their wedding day is now in the Principality and awaiting its debut at the ceremony. The car was recently delivered to the Palace along with its special transparent roof: one of the most distinctive features of this ‘landaulet’ version of the LS 600h L.
Landaulet refers to the name of the open rear body type that was popular with premium cars in the early decades of the last century. This particular style was chosen for the Lexus LS 600h L wedding car to allow perfect visibility for and of the Royal Couple as they tour the streets of the Principality to salute the well-wishing Monegasque citizens. However, as good weather cannot be guaranteed (even for a Royal Wedding) a solution was needed that would protect the Royal Couple in case of rain while still allowing perfect visibility. The answer is a special transparent roof: a hi-tech, single-piece and ultra-light polycarbonate feature, which has been designed and manufactured in line with aero-spatial techniques.
On 2nd July, this unique car will bring the Royal Couple from the Rocher down to the Monaco Harbour and the Sainte-Dévote chapel where, according to tradition, the Princess will lay her bride’s bouquet. Although it will be seen, the Lexus LS 600h L landaulet is unlikely to be heard, as most of the time it will be running in zero emission modes, using only its electric motor.
It is precisely because of its outstanding technological and environmental credentials that the Lexus LS 600h L - the best performing car in its segment in terms of CO2, NOx and particulate matter emissions - has been chosen as wedding car by the Palace. A choice perfectly in line with both the well-known commitment of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco to innovation and the protection of the environment, and his wish to minimize the environmental impact of the wedding celebrations.
